Marvel Teases Black Panther/Ghost Rider Hybrid Hero

Marvel is going mash-up crazy, as a new series of Infinity Warps comics will combine some of the biggest superheroes into brand-new creations. Marvel Comics has been in a state of flux ever since it did a soft reboot of the universe in 2015's Secret Wars. Since then, various cosmic comics have been adding new lore while Marvel has been attempted to create tons of new characters and reset the status quo of old ones. The results have been mixed, but it's seen some interesting developments. With Avengers: Infinity War a big part of 2018, the comics are mirroring the movie with a new Infinity Wars comic. And joining it will be something else entirely.

As the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe battle for the new Infinity Stones, a big villain named Requiem is set to arrive and kick of the Infinity Wars event. And while we don't know what the results will be for the multiverse of the stories within it, Marvel is using the chaos to have fun with some wordplay and bring some fan dreams to life.

This September, Marvel will release a series of 2-issue comics called Infinity Warps. We don't know what the stories will be about or how the characters will get combined, but it's likely the war for the Infinity Stones will create some new heroes or realities as some of the characters will debut in the middle of the event. There will be at least five of these mash-ups, with artist Humberto Ramos providing the first look at the combined heroes. Check them out below, along with details for each comic.

Among the heroes will be Iron Hammer (Iron Man and Thor), Soldier Supreme (Captain America and Doctor Strange), Weapon Hex (X-23 and Scarlet Witch), Arachknight (Moon Knight and Spider-Man), and Ghost Panther (Black Panther and Ghost Rider). The combinations are fairly inspired, providing interesting contrasts (tech versus magic) and a few wild cards. Though most of the characters are Avengers, it's likely X-23 was including just for the fantastic pun. Arachknight, meanwhile, is notable for including Moon Knight and hinting the character may become more prominent in the comics. It's assumed he's mashed-up with Spider-Man, though the look is reminiscent of the Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider.

When it comes to the final three, it appears Infinity Wars #3 will see their debut. It's possible the other two will emerge then as well, meaning the mash-ups are directly tied to the ongoing Infinity Stones stories. Each book will have an impressive pedigree, though Marvel has yet to reveal who will be tackling Ghost Panther. Ta-Nehisi Coates is currently tackling Black Panther and there's no longer an ongoing Ghost Rider book. What's more, but the Robbie Reyes version of the character is currently fighting alongside Black Panther in Avengers, but this version looks more like the Johnny Blaze iteration. For now, the exact nature of Ghost Panther and the other characters/books is still a mystery.

These aren't the only mash-ups Marvel has brewing. They regularly combine various heroes and villains, whether in alternate realities or just zany stories. Cosmic Ghost Rider, for instance, has introduce a Howard the Duck who is Juggernaut. That comic has a whole bunch of other interesting combos that appear to be completely separate from the Infinity Warps conceit. The five books announced are likely all we'll see, though it's possible more mash-ups will appear within the pages of each title. Hopefully, as Infinity Wars approaches, we'll learn more about where these new heroes come from and whether they'll be sticking around.
